Skyrim Anniversary Edition on Switch 2 Adds 30 and 60 FPS Option

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Anniversary Edition on Switch 2 has received a new update. This patch allows players to choose between 30 frames per second and 60 frames per second.

The Switch 2 version of Skyrim Anniversary Edition was released suddenly in December without early announcement. It promised an improved version of the 2022 Switch release.

Compared to the original Switch version, the Switch 2 edition offers higher resolution and faster loading times. It also supports Joy-Con 2 mouse controls, motion controls, and amiibo features.

However, after release, many players complained that the game was locked at 30 frames per second. Some also said there was serious input lag, meaning there was a delay between pressing buttons and seeing actions on screen.

A patch released a few weeks later reduced the input lag. But that update also unlocked the frame rate. Because the frame rate was no longer fixed, some players said the game did not feel smooth during gameplay.

Now, Bethesda has released another patch. This new update adds two display options: “Prioritize Visuals” and “Prioritize Performance”.

When players choose “Prioritize Visuals”, the game is locked at 30 frames per second. This helps provide more stable performance.

When players choose “Prioritize Performance”, some visual details are reduced. This allows the game to reach 60 frames per second more often.

In addition to the new frame rate options, the update also fixes many bugs, crashes, and performance problems. Some areas where frame rate drops were often reported have been improved.

Like other versions, the Switch 2 Anniversary Edition includes the base game and the three official expansions: Dawnguard, Dragonborn, and Hearthfire.

The Anniversary Edition also includes access to the Creation Club. This gives players extra community-created content such as quests, weapons, armor, spells, and dungeons.

As with the earlier Switch versions, the Switch 2 edition also includes exclusive Nintendo items inspired by The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. These include the Master Sword, Hylian Shield, and Champion’s Tunic.

Below are the main patch details from version 1.2.

New Features:

  • Added a 60 Hz mode in Display settings. Players can choose between “Prioritize Visuals” or “Prioritize Performance”.
  • In “Prioritize Visuals” mode, the frame rate is locked at 30 Hz for smoother gameplay.

  • During combat at Secunda’s Kiss

Control Fixes:

  • The “Eagle Eye” perk no longer stays active after switching control modes.
  • Fixed an issue where reassigning buttons could cause them to disappear.
  • Joy-Con 2 controllers no longer give haptic feedback in mouse mode.
  • Fixed unresponsive buttons when remapping controls in mouse mode.
  • Improved map rotation speed in mouse mode.

Audio Fix:

  • Scrolling sound effects no longer continue playing when holding the joystick at the top or bottom of Save/Load menus.

Localization Fix:

  • The word “Amiibo” no longer appears incorrectly as plural in Spanish.

Other Changes:

  • Added new translations for the updated features.
  • Updated the game credits.

With this new update, players on Switch 2 now have more control over performance settings and can enjoy smoother gameplay depending on their preference.
