Steam Deck Sold Out in US as Valve Warns of Memory Shortages [1]

Steam Deck is currently out of stock in the United States, and Valve says this situation may continue because of memory and storage shortages.

Over the past few weeks, many users have reported that all Steam Deck models often appear as sold out on the US Steam store. Sometimes the devices become available again, but the “Sold Out” sign is showing more often than before.

At the time of writing, all three Steam Deck models are still sold out in the US store. However, they are currently available in the UK store.

Valve has posted a message on the Steam store to explain the situation. The company says that availability may change often because of memory supply problems.

“Steam Deck OLED may be out-of-stock intermittently in some regions due to memory and storage shortages,” the company’s statement reads. “Steam Deck LCD 256GB is no longer in production, and once sold out will no longer be available.”

Earlier this month, Valve also announced that it has delayed sharing the price and release date of its Steam Machine and Steam Frame devices. The company said this delay is due to the fast rise in PC component prices.

The technology industry is now facing a serious memory shortage. Some media outlets are calling this situation “RAMmageddon.” Memory components, especially DRAM, are becoming harder to get and much more expensive.

The global chip shortage between 2020 and 2023 was mainly caused by supply chain problems during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the current memory shortage has a different cause. Large AI data centers are buying huge amounts of memory. Because of this, DRAM prices reportedly increased by as much as 172% during 2025.

Industry analysts and major technology companies believe this could strongly affect the entire tech market. Companies such as Apple and Tesla have already warned that production may be limited in the future because of component shortages.

According to a recent report by Bloomberg, Sony is considering delaying the release of PlayStation 6 until 2028 or 2029. The report says memory production limits could greatly affect both the availability and price of new hardware.

If the shortage continues, analysts expect more console price increases. Hardware manufacturers may decide to pass more of the rising component costs on to customers instead of absorbing the financial loss themselves.

Earlier this month, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa said there are currently no plans to increase the price of Switch 2, even though memory costs are rising. However, he also said this decision could change if the situation does not improve.

For now, Steam Deck customers in the United States may continue to see limited stock as memory and storage supply problems affect production.
