๐Is MindsEye developer collaborating with IO Interactive? [2]
Recent reports indicate that Build A Rocket Boy, the developer behind the much-maligned action title MindsEye, is preparing to end its publishing partnership with IO Interactive, the Danish studio known for the Hitman series. This potential split โ which neither company has officially confirmed yet โ could mark a major shift for the troubled gameโs future.
According to sources cited by Insider Gaming, the decision to part ways is driven by Build A Rocket Boy itself, rather than by IO Interactive. The developer reportedly wants to bring publishing efforts in-house in order to achieve faster decision-making, simpler communication, and greater control over the player experience as it continues to work on MindsEye.
One immediate consequence of the reported change is that a previously announced crossover between MindsEye and Hitman โ first revealed at Summer Game Fest 2025 โ is no longer expected to take place. Instead, Build A Rocket Boy is said to be shifting focus to bug fixes, patching, and new content updates aimed at improving MindsEye after its difficult launch.
MindsEye itself launched on June 10, 2025, to overwhelmingly negative reviews โ with critics and players noting technical issues, poor polish, and a weak overall experience. Sources report that only a small fraction of critics recommended the game at release, contributing to its reputation as one of the most poorly received titles of the year.
If the partnership with IO Interactive does end, it would represent a significant shift for both companies: Build A Rocket Boy will assume full publishing responsibility, and IO Interactive may retreat from publishing future studiosโ games after MindsEyeโs reception. Neither side has publicly commented on the reports yet.
