🤖 Blue Archive Producer Warns About “AI Slop” [1]
In a recent New Year interview, Yongha Kim, producer of Blue Archive, shared candid concerns about the growing misuse of AI in game development, warning that low-quality AI-generated content often referred to as “AI slop” — is beginning to erode player trust across the industry.
Speaking to GameMeca, Kim compared reckless AI usage to a flashy snack package: attractive on the outside, but hollow once opened. According to him, when studios rely too heavily on AI shortcuts, the result is often content that looks impressive at first glance but lacks substance, intention, and creative soul. For games with dedicated fanbases like Blue Archive, players expect authenticity and genuine craftsmanship in every detail something AI alone cannot deliver.
Kim emphasized that current AI models are fundamentally imitative tools, not creative minds. Producing content with a single click, without human intent or artistic direction, risks stripping games of their core creative value. When asked whether AI could replace artists or developers in the near future, his answer was clear: not anytime soon. Even looking ahead to the next year, AI is still far from meeting the standards required in professional game development.
That said, Kim acknowledged AI’s growing role as a supportive tool. At Nexon Games, the team behind Blue Archive and Project RX is adopting a cautious, practical approach using AI for tasks like voice recognition and synthesis to reduce repetitive workloads. The goal is not replacement, but liberation: freeing developers from routine tasks so they can focus on the creative work that only humans can truly do.
