Sony and Honda Reveal First Car With PlayStation Remote Play Support
Sony and Honda have announced that their new car, Afeela 1, will support PlayStation Remote Play.
Sony and Honda created a joint company called Sony Honda Mobility in 2022. The goal is to make electric cars together. Their cars will be sold under the Afeela brand.
The first model, Afeela 1, is planned to start deliveries in California in 2026.
Sony Honda Mobility confirmed that Afeela cars will support PlayStation Remote Play through the Afeela In-Vehicle Infotainment system. This allows passengers to play PS4 or PS5 games inside the car.
Only PlayStation Remote Play is supported. Cloud streaming through PlayStation Plus is not confirmed. This means players must have a PS4 or PS5 turned on at home and stream the game to the car.
“With PS Remote Play, users can remotely access and control their PS4 or PS5 console at home directly from the car’s interface using the Afeela In-Vehicle Infotainment system,” Sony Honda Mobility said.
“It offers an enjoyable way for users to play games remotely from their console using an integrated display and premium audio system. Whether you’re waiting in your parked car or keeping passengers entertained on a road trip, Afeela’s integrated features let you enjoy the PlayStation experience right from your vehicle.”
Izumi Kawanishi, representative director, president and COO of Sony Honda Mobility, added: “The introduction of PS Remote Play embodies Afeela’s vision for mobility: transforming the traveling space into a captivating and emotional one. Through this integration, we are elevating the customer’s entire travel experience to an unprecedented level of entertainment.”
This is not the first time cars have supported video games. In 2022, Tesla added a Steam app to its cars, but later removed support. Microsoft also announced that some cars using LG’s webOS system will support Xbox Cloud Gaming with a Game Pass Ultimate subscription.
