(Added) Awaken Potential Update and Future Balance Adjustments Direction [137]



Hello. This is Epic Seven.

 

(Added on 11/9) Updates related to Awaken Potential will not proceed, and the existing Balance Adjustment method will remain unchanged.




We would like to provide comprehensive information about the new system to be introduced in the 11/09 update, called "Awaken Potential," along with forthcoming changes and our development direction in this Developer Notes.

 

 

Awaken Potential System

 

To begin, we'd like to explain the rationale behind introducing the Awaken Potential System and offer some general insight into it.

 

Currently, there's a multitude of Epic Seven Heroes on the battlefield, and even more Heroes are slated to join the battles.  We have been diligently supporting your cherished Heroes to improve their effectiveness through regular balance adjustments and the addition of Exclusive Equipment. However, there remain certain Heroes who, despite their potential, haven't received the necessary adjustments, leaving many players disheartened.

 

A major contributing factor to this imbalance stems from the allocation of stats dependent on the Hero's constellation. In several cases, these base stat allocations hinder certain Heroes from realizing their full potential in their roles. Moreover, there are constraints regarding the adjustment of base stats for Heroes who have already been released. Additionally, the adjustments we can make to these attributes are limited for Heroes who already possess Exclusive Equipment or 5-Star Moonlight Heroes, as the latter cannot receive Exclusive Equipment. Implementing sweeping changes to the Constellation system might also inadvertently impact Heroes that shouldn't be within the scope of our balancing efforts, leading to complications and making it challenging to overhaul the system.

 

The introduction of the Awaken Potential System aims to expand a Hero's growth and effectively address these limitations. We intend to supplement each Hero with additional stats tailored to their current state, thereby improving their utility and affording them a second chance for growth.

The Awaken Potential System empowers Heroes to attain extra stats by unlocking their latent strengths and memories. When a Hero's potential is awakened, they can acquire additional base stats and acquire Potential Blossom Effects. By meeting specific conditions, you can unlock illustrations linked to the Hero's memories and access new voice lines. Activating a Hero's potential is restricted to those who have undergone the Awaken Potential update and have been awakened to 6. The process involves unlocking “Transformation Stones” to enhance base stats and “Unleash Stones” to amplify Potential Blossom Effects.

The most notable aspect of the Awaken Potential system is its capacity to boost a Hero's base stats. The fundamental process bears some similarity to conventional awakening. However, it deviates from existing awakening. Unlike the existing awakening method, where the increased stats and the rate of increment are predetermined based on the Hero's constellation and class, Awaken Potential tailors the increment to each Hero. Unleash Stones are then utilized to bolster aspects that may not be adequately covered by the base stat enhancement offered by Transformation Stones. Each Hero will receive the requisite attributes, effects, and supplementary stats to make them more formidable in their roles.

 

To unlock Transformation Stones and Unleash Stones, you'll need a new form of currency known as "Erudite Light."  Erudite Light can be obtained by successfully clearing the Spirit Altar at the Epic Hell difficulty level. This allows you to awaken a Hero's potential approximately every 4 weeks. The Spirit Altar Epic Hell difficulty becomes accessible after successfully clearing the Hell difficulty for each respective element.

 

With the introduction of the Awaken Potential update, our objective is to provide a substantial boost in stats and Potential Blossom effects for every Hero. This enhancement will enable them to excel in their roles and significantly enhance your satisfaction in nurturing these Heroes. Ultimately, we aspire to create conditions where a diverse array of Heroes can thrive, thereby deepening the strategic complexity of the game.

 

Potential Blossom Effect and Memory Shard Update

Next, we will now elaborate the growth method of the Potential Blossom Effect and introduce the newly added Memory Shards.

 

As mentioned earlier, the Potential Blossom Effect is an additional effect applied to Heroes upon awakening Level 3 potential. The potency of these effects is linked to the Hero's Memory Imprint level. These enhanced effects encompass improvements to existing skills, the introduction of new features, and the augmentation of additional stats. These adjustments aim to further define a Hero's strengths and mitigate their weaknesses. To illustrate this, we'll use the 5 Hero Krau as an example, one of the targets for this update's Awaken Potential.

Krau has been a cherished Hero among many Heirs for an extended period, but recently, his effectiveness has diminished. The introduction of new formidable Knight Heroes has posed a challenge, and it is also difficult to attain the necessary Health, Effect Resistance, and Speed for him to remain viable in battles. With the introduction of Awaken Potential, he will receive an increase in base Health and Speed. Furthermore, his new Potential Blossom effect will equip him with the necessary effects and additional stats to better shield his allies, ultimately enhancing his role.

 

As the significance of Memory Imprint has grown, and considering that you have to use valuable Slates or Heroes to enhance the Imprint Level, we've developed a new system called "Memory Shard" to alleviate the burden on our Heirs, allowing for a smoother process of imprinting Heroes.

 

Memory Shard is a new item that can enhance a Hero's Memory Imprint level without the need for Slates or Heroes as ingredients. Each Hero has their own Memory Shard, and you can increase the Hero's Memory Imprint level by collecting a certain amount. Memory Shards can be acquired in-game, through events, and other methods after the update on 11/09. We will provide information on how Memory Shards will be distributed. 

 

1) You can consistently acquire Memory Shards of Covenant Heroes through various methods, including:

* Weekly Reputation Rewards

* Conquest Points Shop

* Transmit Stone Shop

    You can acquire an amount of Memory Shards equal to the Memory Imprint of a Covenant Hero once every 4 weeks.

 

2) Additionally, we intend to provide players with the opportunity to obtain Memory Shards for Lead Heroes featured in Side Stories who have awakened their potential through Special Side Stories and various methods.   This will ease the challenge of Memory Imprinting Heroes that are only accessible for a limited time.

 

3) Furthermore, we are preparing a web event that will enable you to obtain a substantial number of Memory Shards for Heroes eligible for the Awaken Potential feature after the 11/09 update.  During this event, you can collect Memory Shards for Memory Imprinting a Hero up to four times among the Heroes that have received the Awaken Potential. Alongside this, the event will offer abundant rewards, including Erudite Light and other essential ingredients for the Awaken Potential feature.


With the growing influence of Memory Imprints, we intend to carefully observe the situation following the Awaken Potential update and remain receptive to your feedback. Moreover, we will diligently work on enhancing the balance for Awaken Potential Heroes and the currency system.

Awaken Potential Update Policy and Direction

 

Lastly, we would like to discuss the future balance adjustment directions related to the Awaken Potential update target and schedule.

 

We plan to regularly implement Awaken Potential for existing Heroes, and newly added Covenant/Limited Heroes will have the Awaken Potential feature upon their release. Our objective is to ensure that all Heroes can benefit from this potential awakening. For the existing Heroes, we intend to introduce Awaken Potential for four Heroes every 16 weeks. As for the four to five Heroes newly released during these 16 weeks, whether they are new or limited, they will have their potential awakened upon release.

 

In addition, we are exploring ways to synchronize the schedule of regular balance adjustments with the Awaken Potential update schedule.

Currently, Epic Seven's balance adjustment schedule follows a regular pattern, mainly during World Arena pre-season or in the middle of the season. This is designed to minimize any confusion resulting from changes in the meta towards the conclusion of the World Arena Season. If we keep the current schedule while adding Awaken Potential, it might lead to frequent fluctuations in the balance among Heroes. This might place excessive pressure on Hero growth and cause stress due to frequent meta-shifts. Hence, we are considering a rotation of regular balance adjustments and the awakening of existing Heroes' potential.

Our primary objective is to provide a stable battle environment after the Awaken Potential update. We will closely monitor the meta and establish our course of action accordingly. The scheduled regular balance adjustment for 11/23 (Thu) will proceed as planned, and the next Awaken Potential for existing Heroes will be introduced early next year.

 

With this, we conclude our announcement regarding Awaken Potential. As this update encompasses several changes, including Hero balance adjustments, we anticipate a significant impact on various aspects, such as the meta. We will vigilantly observe and respond to these changes, and we are committed to refining this new system by continuously heeding your feedback.

This looks like an ftp player cease and desist. Not saying that having some extra things doesn't sound cool on paper but having all new heroes(ml included) start with awaken potential will still outscale older units. Having the SSS imprint being hero crafted and not a base stat buff is also extremely scary, yes kraus isn't huge but who knows what the future holds for newer units. In general they seem to be jealous of the hoyoverse(honkai star rail, genshin impact) system with how constellations  work but with the huge difference of epic seven being a heavily pvp game with tournaments etc and hoyoverse being strictly pve. Imagine in future world cup tournaments people losing because of that system. I have been playing the game since launch and at this point it's just sad watching it go down that path. Still love the game but depending on how this thing impacts the game I might just let e7 finally go. Hope devs reconsider on how this patch is gonna go live.

We have 145 5* heroes. At the current rate it'll take over 12 years to get them all the new awakening stuff LUL

Classic Stove users, ignoring everything they say except for what they "think" they won't like. They literally said they will add ways to get imprints for free now. They also said they will be taking in feedback.


I do think this will shake up the balance a lot, but at the same time, isn't that what makes it fun to play during balance patches? To see old heroes get changed into something you can use again?

I do think that 16 weeks per 4 heroes and the fact it takes 4 weeks to fully awaken each hero will have negative consequences, since some heroes will be way stronger than others for years to come.


I also think limiting the awakening resource gain is bad, since most peoplew want to use multiple of those heroes, and this will effectively lock you out of using some heroes.


Maybe just awaken to bloom effect and ignore the rest?


TL:DR Update needs some testing and improvements, but only stupid people will say that the game is P2W cuz of this, when it already was P2W or PlayForLongToWin.

Why is rebalancing being handled this way? Fixing your intentionally unsustainable game design should not be a task that falls on the players to fix through a system that hogs resources and demands their time investment LMAOOO. This system is insulting, and it's not even close to what's needed. Just do more balance updates for heroes as normal and adjust scaling like you should. You've spent a massive amount of unnecessary effort to create an awful grindy system that further monopolizes your players' time. Just buff old characters and tweak their awakening stats. Do this normally like a good dev team.


We don't need a brand new system for this, we just need you to adjust heroes lol.

Why not just update them via a balance patch like normal? Why not just do balance patches more frequently AND do more heroes? There's too many old heroes and new ones coming out faster and faster. This is a pay to win balance patch that is slow, time gated and does fewer heroes than our already existing slow and mediocre balance patches. It'll take unironically 20 years for them to do every hero at their current pace. What is more is that they will replace balance patches with this system. Epic Seven will be dead by next year if you do this. Cancel Awaken and do more frequent balance patches PLEASE.

There has been an increase of new characters entering the game at a fast pace. I understand new units equals more profit cause we love new shiny toys. Instead why don't y'all step back and fix most of the characters already available. We don't need a new character every 2-3 week and after that no one use anymore. Fix the lag and random crashes in the game. I was very hopeful back when y'all was talking about 10 year plan cause I like the direction of the game, but if you guys continue to milk us dry then the end probably near. Hopefully, we can increase our waiting room size because that's where most of units are going to. 

Soon we have 7 star, 99% of your box will have about 10- 25% disavatage on stats


and 2 extra skill buff from max Imprints and  Full Awaken/(7 stars)

the fact that you put your 'to discover hero full potential is by doing this constellation' bullcrap is by introducing this **** while the very core problem is that your game grind that hinder us from truly discover these hero full potential is so delusional. The fcking grind i tell you, here in game there are already too much number of hero yet so pity amount of gear can be use on them to play around. It is ******* 5 years game yet have you ever ease your player progress without any of yours RNG shenanigan bull5hit? Many times i say the gear grind, the low roll, the reroll, the reset and the alchemy all been nothing but unhelpful, a boast of qol update on them could be something that we as your player really need. Take your programmer and de-code these fcking awful thing you been setting in your game that preventing us from getting good piece of gear, good roll and desired stat that we all been grind our ass for this long time then you can talk all the this crap you want.

since the china release i been afraid this will come..this is literally genshin like system which is so freaking bad genshin is pve , e7 got pvp..the person in charge for e7 in china prolly suggest this type of system..pls smile gate u will not make money in a long run..e7 system is fine for now and apparently everyone mad not just me,pls listen to community,this is really bad for a long run..sure u got some money from whales in early stage but in a long run this game dead. im 100% sure..game cant last long if no one plays it..pls look into solution asap before launch the update..dont make this game fully p2w pleasee thank u

E7 so far the best gacha pvp games i played, dont get down and keep improving!

This awaken potential is the new way for us to play diff style in game instead of just pick meta unit forever in the game.

All these players crying about this. They should read everything carefully before complaining.

I've recently-ish returned to the game and looking over this, I can see some people's concerns but I fear it is a choice of evils at this point.

PVP is going to eat a bitter pill but PVE desperately needs some power headroom, even episode 3 boss fights are still routinely subject of extended player frustration. Content is mid episode 5 and there's supposed to be 7 eventually right? Without more headroom, player agency could dry up almost completely, to the point everything is as rigid as late abyss floors or the like - you'll just need that one perfect team, or you basically don't stand a chance. Maybe a little bit of wiggle from gear, but gear RNG's already a problem as it is.

Where else are they going to get headroom? Nobody wants 7 star heroes, gear is already strained quite far enough especially if it has to be closer and closer to perfect. Higher item level would mean higher end hunts which means even more early game  development monotony ("Forget story! WYVERN! WYYYYYYVERNN!!!").

I get your perspective but it's not like there's no good solution to this problem. They could literally do anything to improve player power...buff old heroes, lower outdated content difficulty (AFK arena), add EE for old heroes that don't have it etc


There is literally no need to introduce a system with imprints - why overcomplicate things when all these solutions exist already (they literally still dont have all heroes with EEs - why add another system? hint - likely for a KPI somewhere...)

I'm kinda curious! If they go through this, are we going to see 350 ran with 200+ eff in near future?

BUT please don't relate it to imprint, it will make the game p2w, please just use another method.

You know this second awakening **** is so fking bad that you start your videos with fking ML 5 selections. you know the outcome of what you are doing and you still choose to do so. you said you are going to run for 20 years, why run the game for 20 years if I can earn the money in 1 year? you have to make the players united and boycott the game and lose all that you have done in the past years. You will only start fresh after the system goes in, either the game dies or you revert and start fresh, because you are more arrogant than blizzard and more greedy and bobby kotick. It is fking insane, you only tell the champion half of what you want to do because you know how bad the other half is. I dont know what ZiLong taught you, but it seems like you are ready for the consequences because you think a ML 5* selection event is enough. 

Second Awakening for old characters is an amazing idea. However, you don't do it for 3*, 4* you do it for old 5*, understandable. ML 5*? holy fking shit! The fact that new 5*s come out with second awakening is fking greedy as fk. The only fking reason I tell others to play e7 over hoyoverse games is that you dont need to pull duplicates because your characters come with full kit when you pull it. Why would I not choose to play starrail or genshin if e7 has constellations too? Give me a reason to get new players other than you dont have to pull for duplicates because there's none now. I have played e7 since launch, I have also AFK many times because of work. I played when Global Launched, I played when EU launched, I played with VPN when JP launched. I don't have time when CN launched. My beloved game is sick, please help. SG learned how to burn out a game's lifetime from ZiLong, I am very disappointed.

Awaken Potential System isn't okay for 5* heroes it will make RTA broken in the future. If SG wants to add Awaken Potential System, in my opinion, it should be only 3* heroes to make a stat of 3* heroes look like or closely 5* heroes to make them better for several content including RTA, I think this scenario makes sense.
Potential Blossom Effect is very bad for Epic Seven. There will be making Epic Seven into a P2W Game. Players aren't happy with this system.

This better be a joke. This wednesday this makes it into the game I am going full free to play for the remaining time I will be playing e7. I am spending over 200$ every month to your dog priced shop and thats not enough? 

Now for some real talk. The stats gain is too big. Like way too big. Extra base def / hp / att? Thats insane. But ignoring that for a second the imprint system is outrageous. I know damn well that in the future you will start pushing abilities / passives on to higher level imprints than B and I am not about it. But the most disgusting thing is that you plan to put this dog water system on every new hero. 

The fired CEO from Unity and Bobby Kotick are impressed by your level of greed. Shame on you.
