Awarding more points in RTA when using non-meta units [1]

Climbing in RTA is a grind. After a few dozen matches it becomes rather boring to see the same characters for the same team compositions. It would be nice if there was some kind of incentive for players to use characters that aren't seen too often.


Being able to reliably win with non-meta characters speaks to the player's skill, so I believe it would be fair to award more RTA points for winnning with what essentially is a handicap. If more people started drafting uncommon characters, RTA would be much more dynamic and fun in general.


If it were possible for developers to order characters by usage in RTA, it wouldn't be too complicated to implement such a system. Sorting a list, dividing it into tiers and assigning flat points, a fraction of a point or a bonus percentage depending on where each chosen character falls in said list.

    Unlikely. This is more complicated than you realize. For example, how many units do you think constitute the top bracket? How many units are actually as good as their usage indicates? There are legend players who run around with plenty of off-meta units, so are we giving them even more advantage now? Is a new powerhouse being left out just because not a lot of people have it yet? Or is a new unit unfairly marked because it's new and a lot of folks are trying it out? If "I" only have certain units built, will this system matter at all to me or will it just be another nuisance that clouds "my" actual performance behind an opaque metric "I" have little control over?
