Solitaria of the Snow’s Skill Issue Notice
- 2021.04.19 13:40 (UTC+0)
This is Epic Seven.
First of all, we would like to apologize for any confusion regarding issues related to Solitaria of the Snow. We’ve made our Heirs worry about our game, and caused discomfort to our Heirs who love Epic Seven. We, the people who make up Epic Seven, from the Developers to the operation individuals, sincerely apologize for the confusion that we’ve caused.
We should have notified our Heirs quicker and in greater detail about the issues related to Solitaria of the Snow’s Skill 2. However, we missed this due to our mistake and caused even more confusion due to unclear notices. It was clearly our mistake. The following are explanations about the unexpected errors that are occurring right now, and future plans, which should’ve been shared previously.
The unique buff effect “Daydream” caused by Solitaria of the Snow’s Skill 2, “I Wanna Go Home...” has a gimmick that randomly inflicts certain designated debuffs upon the enemy after attacking.
We acknowledge that we did not provide a sufficient explanation for this type of gimmick, debuffs inflicted on enemy heroes via a buff effect of the caster that was newly introduced to the game. Furthermore, the style in which skill descriptions are written, are also outdated. We apologize for any inconvenience and misunderstanding this issue caused to our Heirs.
In Epic Seven, there are many different gimmicks such as effects inflicted on the enemy by the caster when the caster attacks the enemy, and effects applied by the attacked heroes upon being attacked. The activation order and mechanisms differ according to the types of gimmicks above.
These timings were easily understood during gameplay in the early phase, when there weren’t many Heroes and Artifacts. However, as new Heroes and Artifacts were introduced and Balance Adjustments have been applied, new gimmicks are introduced, causing the current situation where it is very difficult to fully grasp the activation order for similar and counteracting effects. The skill text categorizations in 4/15 Update, the ones that specifically mention ‘at the moment [Hero] is attacked,’ was done as a means to address this issue.
More specifically, upon attacking, damage is first processed, then other effects such as debuffs are processed. Although we could not develop a uniform and impeccable rule that covers all cases, we’ve put efforts to rationally calibrate the timings in which they are applied, in order to provide our Heirs a pleasurable gaming experience.
In most cases, we try to process the attacker’s effects prior to the defender’s effect, in cases where there are similar effects counteracting each other. However, there are certain inevitable exceptions to this rule of thumb due to the nature of the skills or internal limitations in the actualization process.
These are a general rule of thumb for the mechanisms through which effects are activated upon the usage of a skill by a caster.
- Application of those effects applied prior to attack
- Application of those effects applied at the moment the enemy is attacked
- Application of those regular effects
- Application of those effects applied after attack
- Application of those effects applied after being attacked
As generally known, those Artifact effects applied upon attacking, the effect occurs at the 4th phase. These effects are applied regardless of hit/miss if they are activated. The “Daydream” buff effect that was newly added was designed according to Artifact effects, thus effects are activated at similar moments at which those artifacts’ effects that take place upon attacking.
Such was our effort in order to add a new activation timing for a new gimmick in order to prevent cases where counteracting effects overlap one another. However, we used the general text form “when attacking,” causing confusion to our Heirs.
(Furthermore, there was a bug issue where debuffs inflicted by the Daydream buff effect was reversed when Solitaria of the Snow attacks enemies with immunity set, with artifacts that dispel buff effects from enemies like Iela Violin. This bug caused even more confusion among our Heirs since, this bug was applied differently in World Arena settings and regular Arena settings.)
Along with this, there are further cases such as Stella Harpa and other artifacts that specifies “when attacked,” however are activated “after being attacked,” causing even more confusion. We sincerely apologize to our Heirs for this confusion.
Many of our Heirs have inquired about passive effects by Ambitious Tywin, Champion Zerato and Fighter Maya, which activates in the 5th timing, which makes them activate after the debuffs inflicted via Daydream.
We want to apologize again for additional errors that were discovered regarding Solitaria of the Snow’s 2nd skill, “I Wanna Go Home.”
If Solitaria of the Snow is present on the battlefield, the enemy should not gain Focus; however, for certain skills of certain heroes such as Silk, Violet, and Remnant Violet, Focus neither increases nor decreases. Thus there are cases in which these heroes do not consume Focus after activating skills that consume focus, particularly when they gain focus when Solitaria is paralyzed, and Solitaria was revived. This was an issue that we did not intend previously. We’re working on this issue to be fixed this week via our update.
We are trying to fix debuffs inflicted by Daydream to occur after the Artifact’s effects related to attacks to occur after an Artifact’s effect(s) take place. Furthermore, we are preparing to have an additional edition to address skill descriptions with intertwined descriptions for activation timing. Furthermore, we’ll have an additional review of any possible battle gimmicks that can cause confusion to our heirs.
We will further elaborate on AI skills that our Heirs inquired about. AI mechanisms are not specified in descriptions; however, heroes such as Wanderer Silk and Assassin Cidd are designed to attack the enemy with the highest Combat Readiness rather than of elemental advantage. Solitaria of the Snow’s skill, Boom! Starlight Fall! has the same design. In cases where heroes with exceptional AI mechanisms are added to the game, we’ll try to further inform our Heirs of such designs via our Update Notice.
We’ll always try our best in order to bring about the highest quality to Epic Seven, to meet our Heir’s standards.
We’ve prepared compensation for our Heirs, who have experienced this confusion and discomfort due to the issue related to Solitaria of the Snow’s skills.
Reward: Mystic Medal x 500
Period: 4/20(Tue) after the patch ~ 4/27(Tue) 14:59 UTC
Once again, we apologize for causing an unpleasant experience to our Heirs. Especially for the missed skill part, which is a core component of the game. We’ll try our best in order to strengthen our internal review process and try to notify our Heirs in utmost detail for new gimmicks introduced to the game.
