Why are people so toxic towards smilegate? [16]

I just don’t understand all the hate. Ive been playing this game for around a year and have been around for a lot of stupid changes. But its not like they've made the game so terrible that it’s unplayable. I see the most hate in the little things such as not giving enough compensation for doing updates on their server. They have updates so commonly. Do players really expect 20 bookmarks for the server going down in the middle of the night for a couple hours? I think it’s unreasonable.

Whats your guys’ take on the hate the fanbase gives?

    1. general public opinion that corporate = money ******* evil

    2. some players that have egoistical mentality.

    3. Dev track record that sometimes bend something simple that the community ask into an abomination (remember old pet system?)

mix  them up and voila. you got your toxic concoction. :D

For me its pvp related, they have yet to do anything about ruele, fallen ceci, arby or riolet

kinda sick of fighting those, id sayruele can be dealt with, while the other 3 are just unfair

People are frankly insolent. Even if everything is fine, it still seems that this is not enough. It's also not just about the game. Hatred, envy, discontent, whining and more. They are not created by the game itself and "the mistakes of the developers".

The toxic minority is always the loudest.

If you look at the post volume on Stove its rather low. Even reddit isn't extremely terrible. Given the fact E7 makes millions of dollars a month and has hundreds of thousands maybe even millions of active users the game can't be that terrible if you only see that much volume of disgruntled posts, which are usually just personal opinion or frustration.

These people are obviously entitled to their opinion but more often than not they spin the story to garner sympathy and make rather disingenuous posts that just look like whining. It goes both ways though. Sometimes you get genuine posts that garner criticism then you have people lighting them up in the comments when they don't deserve it.

In my experience if you can't filter out the BS then it's probably best just to stick to official posts and stay away from the comments. I personally am only on Stove because its poorly moderated so you can watch people raging. Its rather entertaining.

As several have already stated, there are just a number of bad elements that are ripe to come together in a very volatile mix. The bifurcation between PvE and PvP content is one component - most games are one or the other, rarely both. Also, it's a "serious" game, by which I mean it doesn't spend a lot of time in the inane, comedic, or light-hearted side of itself, so a lot of folks you see commenting tend to take the game too seriously.

And a lot of it is just plain ignorance of the interplay of various elements of what is actually a fairly complex game system. You see people that want one thing to go a certain way and can't wrap their heads around the fact that to make their desire happen would mean severe detriments to another part of the game.

In this game, and in all things really, there are those who can find a way to make things work, those who can't but are willing to get help, and those who can't and choose to just make everyone else miserable as a result.

No matter what happens, there are always going to be people who are toxic. Whether it's towards the game, the company, the characters, or even other people, toxicity is just the norm.

I don't get the feeling people are toxic.

You sure you are not falling into survivorship bias?

    Its in their nature

I'd say it's cause toxicity has historically gotten good results. The Devs have a tendency of implementing features badly at first (pets, world boss, hunt 13, landy) and after massive outcry, quickly implemented the 'good' versions of those features. It's created this learned behavior where if you want the game to improve and you look at what's worked in the past, it's be angry at the company.

This is reinforced by the devs opening up channels for player suggestions but either not acknowledging old issues or say they're thinking about it. The longer an issue persists, the less useful these suggestions feel, and more frustrated players get.

A key example. They mentioned a while back that they are aware people are ****** about limited artifacts, then released Landy's banner, and only after the massive backlash, previewed the artifact shop selling limited artifacts. Even if they were planning this shop they've yet again reinforced the idea that you need to complain to get improvements.

    "why are people so toxic"

i ask u a serious question op. how many people? i guarantee u CAN count them easily.

if u can count them, they are actually not that many people. there arent even that many unique people on these boards. its the same group of 50-100ppl every day and every thread

the only time u see thread with 100s of replies is when something actually wrong or some official post. most ppl only go to msg board if have question/feedback or something to complain about.

thousands and thousands play game happily and say nothing.

so, all u see in "toxicity" is literally the loudest babies in ONE room together. 0.01% of playerbase.

and because they are SO loud, it actually make u think things are different than they are and they are maybe 30-40% of playerbase.

they are 30-40% of ppl who come here everyday. thats it. still 0.01% of playerbase.

this is the whole point they do what they do. attention. so ur reaction and this thread give them exactly what they want.
