While the recent feature/content updates have missed the mark and do need some adjustment, I think the underlying issue that needs to be addressed really is the lack of ways to accumulate gold.
Everything in the game costs far too much gold to do compared to the amount we gain. Heavy gear RNG is frustrating, low drop rates are frustrating, but what really makes it unbearable is to sink all the resources into powering up a few pieces of gear, only to have them roll poorly and then be broke and unable to continue to do any of the things in the game that require gold (which is almost everything).
If we had reliable and repeatable ways of making gold, then we'd be able to power up or craft more gear, we would be able to afford trying some equipment conversion, we could afford to buy the pet tickets that are already made available to us. Even if the RNG does not go in our favor, if we have the gold we can just move on and continue playing the game instead of being bankrupted by just a handful of gear that turned out subpar and having to basically start from scratch to be able to proceed.
