There was time where there was issues in arena and matchmaking was giving people very low lvl teams to fight and ppl abused that and climbed. Sg punished those abusers with taking all resources they gained later, even if they were spent so that is how you ended at.
So yes, abused system, got punished for it with both arena currency and skystones.
