For new players, don't waste your resources in any way, or level up a character that won't help you in the beginning. Do the whole story and the adventurer's path, then team up with W3 until you get the key characters for W3 on the adventurer's path. Do the ogre at the beginning to get equipment for you to progress. Try to find a guild as quickly as possible in the beginning to get the resources from there, don't worry about PVP, do arena and basic GVG.
