Where’s the roguelike?
Let’s be honest, most of the player base either loves or knows about slay the spire so in comparison, chaos runs are so easy to beat that the only roguelike element is the random generation of levels.
Based on this, I think the game needs a HUGE revamp in 3 elements:
- Stress and breakdowns are basically a joke and most of the times ignored, but they should be IMPACTFUL. Once someone hits breakdown, they should face a PERMANENT debuff depending on the emotion, or in some cases, an EMERGENCY RECALL just like in the first story chapter (so you’d continue the run with the other 2 combatants)
- Monsters are a joke and except for highest difficulty bosses + chaos debuffs, all of them can easily be brute forced. ALL monsters should have BUFFS similar to the combat events with a purple flame, and new random events like more monsters appearing if you take more than 3 turns to clear a combat area
- Camps are a joke and most of the times avoided. Camps should provide POWERFUL options, like summoning/replacing a combatant in breakdown state, higher reduction of stress (to avoid getting into breakdown state), buying equipment or triggering epiphanies (they shouldn’t be easily given by a lot of events or any combat)
Finally as a QoL feature, it should be possible to pause the chaos run at ANY time, not just in checkpoints or after defeating a boss.
