Permanent 50% Damage Boost (Please Fix ASAP) [10]



I wanted to bring attention to this combination. Yes I know this is the old Veiled Thorn description, but the point still stands.

I tested a Combatant with the Veiled Thorn that had that Refinement on the weapon, testing was done live yesterday as well as offline afterwards and more testing this morning after the new patch came out. There is a very serious bug with this combination that was consistent with all of my own testing with plenty of footage as evidence. This combination does not check for either the weapon or the refinement triggers meaning you have 100% uptime of a 50% damage boost on the Combatant! This is obviously very bad with content like the Great Rift right around the corner which has a Ranking Ladder, so I'm trying to spread awareness about this so that it can hopefully be fixed before it could potential cause some serious damage to the game.

During all of my testing, the Refined Veiled Thorn will always activate regardless of if allies attack or if the Combatant attacks, regardless if the enemy has a shield or not, and regardless if it's from a Card Attack or not. I'm not sure what's going on with the coding for this, but it should be checking for either trigger of allies attacking of the wielder attacking (which would turn off both effects), but I guess it somehow gets jumbled up and just skips that step and flags it as always TRUE? 

If this combination worked as intended, then it would be a nice weapon to get (not sure if it's intended to stack 50% and 50% or if it is supposed to be 100% or simply 50% and doesn't stack), but as it is right now I fear it's simply just a broken piece of gear that could threaten the health of the game if left alone for too long.

Obviously I will be deleting my Save Data that has this (I just did first arena to get the combination then left so it's not even good to use), but have kept it until now so I can check and test to make sure this gets fixed properly and to gather footage to share about what's going on for educational purposes. I would not recommend anyone actively seeking this combination out knowing this information until the Devs address this issue.

@STOVE190774271 Very curious that your buff fell off because It's still not falling off on my end. Mine is still acting the same as the video I posted even with testing today, permanent 50% damage up.

I just hopped on for some more testing since you said the buff does fall off after a hit now even though I hadn't seen any new patches since I posted this and my buffs are still permanent after attacking with Amir, which it should fall off because she has the weapon on her.

I'll always keep testing this until it gets fixed and hopefully the next patch they put out addresses this, but if other people would like to make new posts to we can spread more awareness I don't mind either since this is just a single post and I'm not sure how much the Devs check every single bug report/suggestion on STOVE. (Chizuru bug probably got fixed as fast as it did because everyone was posting about it for days).

I hope that if they fix it, they make the buff disappear if the hero hits, of course, but the 50% weapon damage and the 50% refinement should add up to 100%, Because activation condition is difficult enough..because there are people like me who obtained both without looking for a bug and literally losing 50% damage makes no sense. :/. 


*I just ran some tests, and it seems the buff is now lost on hit, but they haven't fixed the issue where buffs don't stack (50% only Instead of 100%) . I hope they fix that soon.


@MichelAnge Yeah I should've, but the description also got fixed at that point so I didn't bother with getting a new screenshot of that item since it was already "fixed." But you're right with getting the updated text at least.

I did do much and more testing that I don't have in that footage specifically and that is clipped from a VOD that shows even more that regardless of who is attacking or how many attacks I do in a turn this boost is still active, just to clarify that I did try it on a variety of enemies with different team comps and every possible situation to deactivate the triggers.

Interesting, whether or not damage is dealt, one of the two buffs is permanently active. I'd be curious to know which one.

Because if we look at the two descriptions side by side:


With its new description, we can now see that the weapon clearly specifies "allies," so no damage should be dealt by the entire team.


Whereas the refinement doesn't specify "allies," but rather "damage through a card was not dealt to an enemy." This implies that the restriction only applies to the wielder, and therefore that the other two allies can deal damage.


But given the prevalence of this bug, it's difficult to guess their intention behind these two effects.

(For the sake of clarity, it would be more appropriate to display the item with its new description, even though the video is much more representative) 

I have encountered the same thing like 90% of the time. However, I have noticed with certain teams I run with Nine, I will always see that the weapon is "activated" in the log each turn. However, with other teams I run with Nine, sometimes I can get it to where it doesn't say that the weapon is activated. It is very inconsistent. However, I have also noticed that on a weapon like the Sneering Dagger (When an enemy is defeated, 2 Vulnerable to all enemies), each turn in the log it will also say that it is activated, which I know can not be the case. Something is definitely still bugged, but it is hard to make good test scenarios. But in the few good scenarios I could get, numbers seem to be inconsistent. Looking at the numbers directly,sometimes the damage boost will stay locked no matter what I do. However, sometimes I have noticed that on some turns I get the damage boost, then I will attack with another combatant in the same turn, then the damage boost with go away in that same turn.

Hope they fix It before the leadorboards opening

@Lilianda They fixed the description of Veiled Thorn earlier. It was never intended to work if you blocked damage, it only ever activates if your team doesn't DEAL damage. Regardless, even if I skip my turn completely and fully block damage it still acts the same way as described where you get a 50% damage boost. It is always active no matter what.

maybe you misunderstood the description? it says if allies didn't receive damage, meaning  the enemy didn't attack, or you fully blocked it, then on the next turn you get 50% bonus. And the second effect says that if you didn't damage enemy with a card for a turn, then the next turn you get 50% bonus. I don't see how this is broken at all. Only Nine can really benefit from it cos if you do 100% first round and 100% second round, then you are better off than if you did 150% the second round. ofc it can be useful if you get unlucky for a turn and only end up with some status cards and a shield. If its bugged, obviously they should fix it
