I think the correct term is avoided and more of a preference. It is recommended that you have the knowledge, resources, etc. to play Ghost Mode at the very least. For example, a player can actually play Destruction Mode while having the common peripherals while in Ghost Mode, it is really a plus if you have good quality headsets, keyboards, mice, etc. Items are also available to boost your performance in Ghost Mode (e.g., breath silencer and footstep sound reducer), in contrast with DM which has items like C4 kits and armors which are normal items not necessarily affecting your overall performance. You also need to have this knowledge about pinpointing, hopping, etc. for you to play reasonable in Ghost Mode. While these factors affect the preference of players, it is also notable that actual gameplays vary from one mode to another making one a choice for others and the other for the rest. 

I think it's better to promote modes nicely without really damaging the others. While your statement seems true, relevance plays a crucial role, in my opinion, enough to keep a mode running. That being said, Ghost Mode still provides that quality, hence this post.
