Body Hello everyone, First of all, thank you to everyone who played THE SUSPECT and shared your feedback during INDIE BOOST LAB. This program gave me an opportunity to see how players actually interact with the game and helped me discover several issues and areas for improvement that were difficult to notice during development. Many players responded positively to one of THE SUSPECT's core concepts: investigating a case through an early-2000s Korean PC environment and internet culture, while comparing files, records, statements, and other digital evidence. The survey also showed a strong positive response toward this concept, as well as toward the CRT scanline and dithering-inspired visual style used throughout the game. INDIE BOOST LA_THE SUSPECT_์ค๋ฌธ์กฐ์ฌโฆ INDIE BOOST LA_THE SUSPECT_์ค๋ฌธ์กฐ์ฌโฆ At the same time, the playtest highlighted several areas that need improvement. Some players had difficulty understanding the early tutorial and the CROSS-REF system, while others found it inconvenient t
[WhoโsSus] The culprit I suspect is
First of all, I think the basis of this deduction should start with whether Han Do-yoon's death was a suicide or a homicide. Considering the suicide note, Do-yoon's usual tone, and the fonts on his computer, there is a large discrepancy between the time the note was written and the time of Do-yoon's death. Also, seeing as he didn't usually use the word 'ol-lim' (upload) and the Shin-myeongjo font used in the note was not found on Do-yoon's computer, it can be concluded that the note was written by someone else and he was murdered by that person.Next, I think "Why did Han Do-yoon have to die?" in other words, the culprit's motive, is important.Narrowing it down to the people who had conflicts in this regard, we have Seo Jin-ho and Jung Jae-min, who had disputes related to the "backup_tool", and Kang Woo-seok, who had conflicts related to contracts and money. This leads to two types of conflicts and three suspects. I believe the murder took place that day to prevent a critical revelation that was being planned due to these two conflicts.Next, if we compare the alibis of the three to predict the culprit?Seo Jin-ho and Jung Jae-min both claimed they left work early and worked from home, but looking at the CCTV, vehicle entry records, ID card records, and server access logs, it can be confirmed that there are many points that contradict their statements. Kang Woo-seok stated that he was in a meeting with another company at the time, and there are no particular records of him entering the company that day. Looking at the alibis of the three above, it seems more likely that Seo Jin-ho or Jung Jae-min is the culprit rather than Kang Woo-seok. However, it is difficult to confirm these two as the culprits based solely on the evidence above regarding the 4th-floor intercom, the destruction of the lock, and the time of the intrusion. In other words, anyone could have committed such acts, and it is difficult to consider them definitive evidence. Both of them work in an IT company and would know that server login records, ID records, and vehicle logs would remain, so for a planned murder, both of them entered through such honest routes and left so many traces that they don't seem to be the suspects. On the other hand, Kang Woo-seok, who has a perfect but vague alibi, has a stronger motive as it is a crime related to money, and it is expected that he used a method that left no records at all for the entire company that day, despite mistakes like entering his ID incorrectly three times.This is my deduction based on the content released so far.I think Kim Gyu-ho, Im Do-hyun, and Yoon Seo-yeon, who were not mentioned above, could also sufficiently become culprits or accomplices depending on the future development.Kim Gyu-ho had no apparent motive, such as his relationship with the "backup_tool", his statement that his memory was hazy, being the person in charge of the 11 o'clock server maintenance, and remembering the management code, but there were many suspicious points. Yoon Seo-yeon stated that she had not met him separately after they broke up, but there is data showing they exchanged emails almost every day, and she left a suspicious comment saying not to do it alone but to do it together. Do-hyun also had contradictions in his Gimbap Heaven receipt and his alibi statement. This is because other people involved in the case still have suspicious parts as mentioned above.
[WhoโsSus] (Spoiler) The most suspicious character...
First, before finding the most suspicious suspect... all the characters were suspicious. It was sufficiently revealed in ch1 that all the witnesses had contradictions or lies in their statements, and through ch2, I became strongly convinced that, based on the demo play, there is not just one culprit, and there is at least one person who witnessed the incident and an accomplice who helped destroy evidence.Among them, the most suspicious character is the one in the player's position, Kim Gyu-hyo. I'm not suspecting him by concluding that Kim Gyu-ho is the culprit. Unlike the other characters, his actions themselves are very unnatural. Even though he was working at the company when Kim Do-yoon died, Kim Gyu-hyo, whether due to post-traumatic stress or lying to himself, analyzes Do-yoon's HDD containing records from 22 years ago while in a state of memory loss. In that process, I felt that he was intentionally glossing over his alibi simply because he couldn't remember it.In particular, in the 4th-floor intercom damage journal, there is a record of someone entering the company with an administrative code around 22:12, and Gyu-ho says, 'I remember the administrative code. I just don't remember that time..' There is a part where he monologues something close to a confession. I felt a strong implication that Gyu-ho is not a person completely unrelated to this incident, but rather a person at the center of the story center.In the future story, I will analyze the incidents and clues to get closer to the truth, and I am very curious about what role Gyu-ho will play in the story during that process.
[BugReport] Reporting a few bugs
1. Save data saves, but loading does not work. Since mid-game saves don't work, it was sad... and inconvenient to have to start completely from the beginning to try again.2. When hovering the mouse cursor over menus or bars to change options, or over the search bar to search, the actual Windows cursor appears instead of the in-game cursor.3. (The photo is with Ctrl+P pressed.) Please check to ensure that Windows shortcuts such as Ctrl+F, Ctrl+P, F3, F7, and the right mouse button do not function during gameplay.4. In the Day 1 evidence analysis system, the confirmed results appear as 3/1 and 5/1, but in the results screen after the demo play, they appear as 3/7 and 5/7. I am curious if this is intentional or a bug.
[WhoโsSus] The culprit I'm thinking of is...
In conclusion, the answer for the current demo version seems to be 'cannot be determined'.The victim's time of death is between 21:00 and 22:30, and(considering the Gimbap Cheonguk receipt in the middle, it can be estimated to be at least after 21:35)The time the suicide note was written and saved is 02:47.Looking at the time alone, we can tell that the suicide note was not written by the victim, but by the culprit or a third party.(Even considering the usual handwriting, etc.)And looking at the access records at the time, 'Jung Jae-min' left the company at 21:40, andafter that, 'Seo Jin-ho' entered at 21:52 and left at 22:05.Looking only at the access records, it is highly likely that Seo Jin-ho is the culprit, but the problem isbased on the record of someone entering around 22:12 that day and the history of repairing the automatic door lock that was broken after the incident,I judged that it is impossible to specify because practically everyone could be the culprit.Also, I wondered why the suicide note was written at 02:47 the next day when the victim's maximum time of death was 22:30.If the culprit intended to disguise it as a suicide, they would have written the suicide note around the time of death, so if I think about why they wrote it so late,it seems that someone who came to the office secretly for business after the culprit killed the victim and left witnessed the crime scene, and for some reason,they didn't report it and wrote the suicide note late to disguise it as a suicide.Personally, I can't pick just one person, but based on my investigation, here are 3 likely suspects:Jung Jae-min - Given the record of him continuously logging in with an administrator account while entering, he was probably trying to steal something related to backup_tool. It seems there was a conflict with the victim in this process, but the problem is that looking at the receipt, the victim seemed to be alive until 21:35, and he left at 21:40, so I'm not sure if it was possible to kill the victim within those 5 minutes. And the message Jin-ho left for Seo-yeon is also more likely to have been sent to hide the theft of the backup_tool rather than to cover up Jung Jae-min killing the victim.Seo Jin-ho - Actually, looking only at the evidence investigated, he is the most likely culprit. The lie about working from home, the history of visiting the company exactly at the victim's estimated time of death, and like Jae-min, he also has a connection to the victim regarding the backup_tool. However, he has a history of working during that time, and if he killed them himself, I'm not sure why he would bother coming back later to write the suicide note. Of course, as I said before, it seems the culprit who killed the victim and the person who wrote the suicide note might be different, so if I had to find the culprit, I think it's highly likely to be Seo Jin-ho. On the other hand, I also thought about the hypothesis that Jung Jae-min killed the victim and Seo Jin-ho witnessed it when he visited the company, but ignored it because their goals were the same, but it is very unlikely that a normal person would see a scene where someone has collapsed and calmly work and leave.Kang Woo-seok - He is the culprit I personally think of. First of all, there was a dispute with the victim regarding money problems, and looking at the data, it seems only the victim knew about Kang Woo-seok's money problems, so he might have thought that if only the victim died, this problem could be covered up. But I haven't found much related data yet, so there aren't many parts to support my claim so far.Overall, why the victim's estimated time of death and the time the suicide note was written are different seems to be the point of contention in this case.I enjoyed playing the game!
[WhoโsSus] Who could the suspect be...
The people I've found most suspicious while playing so far are, in order, Jung Jae-min, Seo Jin-ho, and Kang Woo-seok.1st Place - Jung Jae-minThe person I find suspicious is Jung Jae-min.Jung Jae-min stated that he was at home on the day of the incident, but there is a record of him entering the office at 21:08 and leaving at 21:40. Since Han Do-yoon's estimated time of death is between 21:00 and 22:30, the time frames overlap.In particular, there is a record of multiple admin account login attempts using the IP address from Jung Jae-min's desk, and the fact that it leads to connection records related to DOYOON-PC is the most suspicious part.More than the simple fact that he returned to the office, I am suspicious of why he lied about being at home during the police investigation. I wondered if he would have felt the need to hide his whereabouts if he had come to the office for a reason unrelated to the incident.2nd Place - Seo Jin-hoThe second is Seo Jin-ho.Unlike his statement that he was working from home, records confirm that Seo Jin-ho was also at the office on the day of the incident from 21:52 to 22:02.I was also concerned about the fact that he had a conflict with Han Do-yoon over the backup_tool issue. Since Han Do-yoon was trying to organize the related content, I thought Seo Jin-ho might have had a reason to stop him.However, so much evidence pointing directly to him has surfaced that I also thought he might be a person used to hide the real culprit.3rd Place - Kang Woo-seokThe third is Kang Woo-seok.Although there is no direct record of him entering the office during the time of the incident like Jung Jae-min or Seo Jin-ho, it bothers me that there are aspects that could have caused conflict with Han Do-yoon.In particular, there was a discrepancy between the investment-related data and what was actually confirmed, and the fact that Han Do-yoon was demanding an explanation for this seemed important. I thought that if Han Do-yoon had discovered financial problems or hidden facts within the company, Kang Woo-seok might also have had a reason to stop him.It is difficult to be certain which of the three it is based only on the content available in the current demo. Rather, Jung Jae-min and Seo Jin-ho have strong traces of being at the scene, while Kang Woo-seok stands out more for having a potential motive, so I suspect them for different reasons. I am most curious to see how these records will connect in the full version.
[WhoโsSus] No traces x editing
The decisive clue that makes one think this incident was staged is the suicide note.The final save time of the suicide note is 02:47. However, the autopsy states that death occurred between 21:00 and 22:30. The police wrote it off as a PC clock error and said there was a difference of up to several hours, but I think 2:47 is too precise to be an error.And this is Han Doyoon's DOYOON-PC\admin. There was already a console attach at 21:15. [inherited from DOYOON-PC]From that time on, someone was connected to the server through Han Doyoon's PC, and it was at a time when Han Doyoon was still alive. The font of the suicide note body is in the Shin Myeongjo family, which is not in the font list of Doyoon's home PC.The signature "Doyoon Ollim" (Sincerely, Doyoon) is not in any of the 41 documents, and he preferred "-Han Doyoon" or "Han Doyoon Deurim" (Best regards, Han Doyoon). He never once used the humble expression "Ollim". Through this, we can see that it was not written by Han Doyoon or that it is not his writing. And in the photo below, the suicide note is placed too neatly.At 2:47 AM, someone printed out the documentin the office in front of the monitor, placed it there, and saved it. At that time, the building's automatic locking system had been broken since 22:00, so the doors were not locked and anyone could enter.In conclusion, the suicide note is not a trace of murder, but a conclusion of murder editing.After the death, someone remained at the scene to complete the story. (People lied, and the save time is bound to remain. I assert that 2:47 proves the culprit's length of stay. (*^โฝ^*)
[BugReport] The download window remains visible even after returning to the main screen.
Although this bug was discovered at the end of Chapter 1, it might be an error related to the entire file download process.It is a bug where the download window persists if you exit the game while it is open, and pressing the button from 'Continue' immediately triggers the download window.I believe it should normally close.The version is the most recent one as of now.
[WhoโsSus] "Those two things are related to the motive for the crime."
Today, I will talk about the suspicious Yoon Seo-yeon.First, let's look at the post on Do-yoon's bulletin board on Cyworld on November 13th at 23:40,I will clear everything up soon.and check the comment that appeared 29 minutes later. Oppa. I have those two things. Let's check them together on Monday. Don't do it alone.Here, Do-yoon was trying to do something alone, and Yoon Seo-yeon knew it was dangerous. Although it is not revealed what the two things are here, we can infer that Seo-yeon was one of the few precious people who asked Do-yoon to check them together. At the same time, it is also the day Do-yoon requested Kang Woo-seok to explain before the Monday meeting.Yoon Seo-yeon testified in the police investigation that she had contacted him for work, but it is difficult to talk about it now,and added that it was content that could also implicate her. I think the testimony here is divided into two parts.One is 'trying to protect herself' and the other is 'trying to protect Do-yoon'.I believe Yoon Seo-yeonhad 14 messages from October 28th to November 12th, and although the message files were corrupted,considering they were a couple who broke up and only contacted each other once or twice for work, 14 messages is not just once or twice.She intended to show those two things she mentioned on Monday, but Monday never came.Isn't the location of those two things the key to this game?Yoon Seo-yeon is definitely not the culprit, but I think it is necessary to examine the possibility that those two things were important information related to the case.
[BugReport] There are files in the archive that I haven't even seen in File Explorer.
At the end of Chapter 1, I was looking at the archive without receiving file 2 that transitions to Chapter 2, and Golden Bridge Capitol is a file I've never even seen.Files that I never registered are registered... I have never used the archive at all,,24 items were added suddenly, and files like the one above that I've never seen before are appearing.If I press undo, I can never see them again....Files that cannot be seen in File Explorer are appearing, so I think one of the two is the problem.Either they were supposed to appear but didn't, or they are deletion information that shouldn't have appeared but did.
[WhoโsSus] I am participating in the event.
The incident very naturally leads Jinho, Jaemin, and Seoyeon into a close relationship with the case, while Wooseok tries to directly drag them into the list of suspects by claiming there was a conflict.Dohyun also appears with significant frequency within the materials.However, only "Gyuho" seems like an outsider, with almost no traces of interaction with his colleagues.The protagonist in the story keeps repeating the keyword "memory" to an unnatural degree.They clearly read it, but they say they cannot remember, it does not come to mind, and they cannot think of it.The keyword of 11 PM is explicitly presented.Of course, it is still the very beginning, so it could be mere suspicion or speculation.It must have been a major incident, so why on earth can he not remember it?
[WhoโsSus] Something smells fishy~ Beware of spoilers~
Kang Woo-seok is the most suspicious He keeps repeating "I don't know". "The detailed documents were managed by the accountant. I don't remember exactly." This isn't a statement, it's an excuse to hide something. That's why I don't think he doesn't remember, but rather that he doesn't want to remember.And let's look at the contents of the Golden Bridge Capital email together. "We are pleased to confirm our investment for support your project." (What kind of English is this...)"for support your project" It wasn't written by a native speaker. "We are make this partnership for long term" (What is this again) Even my dog would say there's a 100% chance this was a document thrown together by someone or a machine translator.It makes no sense for an overseas investment commitment letter to be this sloppy. Han Do-yoon noticed this too and at 14:02 sent an email saying, "The copy and the accountant's confirmation details are partially different." He was telling him to explain it before the Monday meeting.But that night, Han Do-yoon died. The Monday meeting was called off.Coincidence.. I can't see it as a coincidence. Kang Woo-seok said "There were no calls or contact."That's what he said.That doesn't mean he didn't receive the email Do-yoon sent. He must have received the email. Whether he read it or not isn't left in the logs.If it was sent at 14:02, there was plenty of time to check it before the meeting that evening.Kang Woo-seok said he had an investor meeting in Gangnam. The person with an alibi is the most dangerous. Because they're the ones who can create an alibi {wink}
[WhoโsSus] Seo Jin-ho, that's chilling.
I'm suspicious of Seo Jin-ho, not as a murderer, but as someone who is hiding something.In that email, "I never told you I went to the office yesterday." I think that's a sentence written in a state of total panic.He realized someone saw him, and he's terrified that it might reach Yoon Seo-yeon.And"Don't talk about that hard drive."Hard drive. Hard disk. The fact that he mentioned it the morning after the incident means Jin-ho knows there is something on that hard drive.Jin-ho swiped his card to enter at 21:52 and left at 22:05; the vehicle records are the same. His claim that he was working from home is a lie. But why would he lie?? He could have just said he went to the office, right?? Went to submit a proposal?? But for some reason, he hid that fact.Around the time he gets to that part of the email, there is a sentence saying he saw Jae-min's car leaving. The core point is that Seo Jin-ho saw Jung Jae-min leaving, and therefore, it's possible he also saw Jae-min coming in. But he didn't tell the police about that. Because he was afraid he would become even more of a suspect. He witnessed something that night, and he was so terrified by what he saw that he lied and said he was at home.And he asked Yoon Seo-yeon to say she didn't know anything.Seo Jin-ho is not the culprit, but he is someone who knows who the real culprit is.Hmm, if this is true, it's quite scary;
[WhoโsSus] The culprit is you!!!
The most suspicious one is Jung Jae-min. His statement is only two lines long. "Around 8 o'clock." "I didn't go. I was at home. Alone." But IP 10.0.0.09 is Jung Jae-min's station. At 21:14, there were three failed attempts as admin, and at 21:15, a console attach occurred from Doyoon-PC. Card 039-1182 from the same IP also belongs to Jung Jae-min. He entered at 21:08 and left at 21:40, and vehicle ****4821 was also recorded during the same time frame.But the thing that bothers me the most here is "Alone." Nobody asked that... He could have just said "I was at home" Why did he add "Alone"? That's the tone of someone trying to create an alibi,, There's a reason he needed to emphasize that he was alone. Or maybe he really was alone, and he wanted to confirm that himself.I don't know which one it is, though... But I think Jung Jae-min went back to the office that night, saw something, and came out. He tried to do something with the admin account and failed, then got in through DOYOON-PC.That was at 21:15. Doyoon was still alive then, yikes. See you in the full version for the rest of the story ~~~
[BugReport] The photo size is too small, making it uncomfortable to view :(
HelloI'm writing this because I wanted to share my thoughts on the photo window that appears when you click on the will in the early chapters. Currently, the will photo is displayed in a standard window, which might feel like a small barrier to entry for players who don't know about the resize feature.It's displayed in the same format as the record window, so it felt a bit inconvenient that I had to zoom in to read the content...If possible, it would be much more convenient to check the content if you could change the will photo window to a format similar to the Recall window. :)Other than that, the concept of investigating past incidents through a retro-style computer and the game design that keeps you thinking by combining clues were really impressive.It felt like it captured the situation at the time perfectly, so I enjoyed playing it despite the slight inconvenience.Thank you for reading, and I hope you have a great day ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
[BugReport] The monologue sentence that appears after completing the case comparison at the end of Chapter 2 is misaligned.
The monologue reflecting on the past after performing the case comparison in Chapter 2 looks misaligned.I am playing the game in 16:9 (1920 x 1080) aspect ratio, but since the game is native 4:3, it seems like a problem caused by the sentences being aligned based on that.This was Yayaroro.Thank you.
[BugReport] Typo during the mounting of Han Yoojin's conversation storage medium in Chapter 1.
Transitioning from Chapter 0 to Chapter 1When restoring the floppy disk received from Han Yoojin, it says "Reconsturction" andUnless it is a proper noun in the world-building, I assume it should be 'reconstruction' based on the sentence context, so I am writing a bug report.(The game is fun.)
[BugReport] [Spoiler] The story progresses even though the evidence is uncertain because only the first data comparison was done.
